Whats it gonna take to get more cars back to Indianola? I have been going to races for years and watched many and I would certainly not want the sport to die. I've been to Adel as well and some other tracks out east but I gotta say Indianola has been the best racing I have seen and definitely the fastest track around. I don't mean any disrespect to other tracks by saying that.. Just wondered if anyone had anything on this subject

This will be a long answer to your question, Alot has changed over the year's with racing, Cost of getting to track's, Raising cost of entry fee's, Finding the car's to build, Hassle with track's anywhere with rule's is the main connecern i see reason car count keep's dropping all over the place, Older driver's are getting out and not leaving a good door for newer driver's to get involved in the sport. Let's start with the first one and slowly work are way through the list. Track's keep raising the entry fee to go racing with the pay staying the same, i know some say its a hobby but you have to help repair ur car. Year's of racing entry fee contuine's to go up and payout still stay's the same, this has no bad intent to any track but if u say drivers u want more money bring more car's is not a answer to the problem. Problem exist both direction's. With entry fee's higher and tracks just trying to survive but the driver's paying for it doesnt take long for them to get tired of it. Cost of racing has went up while technology has changed. Some of the older racer's use to go out and do there thing and was a good era. But over the year's you tend to get a newer generation into the sport that is more technology advance and they are trying to keep the cost down on themself's. Finding car's out there to race with compliance to rule's are getting harder. Ive personally seen many car's go to junk yards that someone could have used but didnt comply with rule's. If you think of how many tracks in the united states and how many car's at each track and how many production vechiles that were made the number's are growing small. I have said thing's before to people they need to let the new generation in and have a expermental class that is more forgiving with rule's as the next generation comes up let them build the new era. Rule's always seem to be a part of everything in todays world and any part of racing. It's a very ugly subject so not going to touch basis on it to much. Arguing with the rules some drivers dont mind some do. If driver's are happy why mess with it and make them upset. A upset driver is never a way to draw more car's word of mouth is a vital tool. But also shouldn't be kissing there rear to make them happy either. Work out a solution to the problem. Never going to make everyone happy. But when u see a dramtic car count drop cause of rule's thats time track's need to take notice. I understand that tracks want drivers to do alot of work to get more but keep in mind tracks make money off of the races they need to put just as much effort into it as the driver's. If family friend's dont want to come to the track or kid's then makes the driver hard to come. Driver's tend to go where they have friend's at. A few may go here or there but when you talk number's driver go where there friend's go. Hope this shine's some light on the subject from one person's prespective.

the cost of racing has gone up yes by parts and everything but i have not really seen any changes as far as pit entries going up. The purse has gone down a little but indianola and adel are still paying say 500 to win for open. those two tracks seem to work out between each other as far as schedules and rules go. About 4 years ago i wouldn't believe that fig 8 racing was gonna make it but there are more cars coming. very slowly but i think it will happen. going in a circle is fun but going in an 8 is awesome when you try it.

I normally wouldn't post on here cause of most of the negiativity it normally get's but seen this post and read alot of other blogs and post all over the place, Im going to step outside my box for a moment and say my thought's on this. I use to race 15 year's over those 15 years this is what happened and why i got quit racing and dont allow my boys to race, Racing use to be what u did with a group of guy"s on the weekend worked your butt off all week came home and worked on ur car trying to get the thing ready for the up coming season, Man did i enjoy that it was a brake from the real world for a while a place where u could go and just simply relax. Thing's began to change at track's i raced that went from a change i was unsure of. One night i show up at a track and will not mention any track names out of respect but i had my boys with me and track began to gripe on a stupid thing with the car it was all over a flag i had hanging from my car that my boys made in school. The tech offical told me it had to come off. When i went down back to my stall and talked to my boys about it the expression on there face was a moment of disgust. That night i loaded my car on the trailer not saying a word and left. Over the period of the following 2 weeks before next race at night i would sit at the table with my wife and discussed it long and hard about the situation. I had 2 people call me later that week asking me why i left and these were close friend's.I explained it to them and they said why not take it down and race. At that moment it came very clear to me racing wasn't like it use to be. I went to work that night and thought to myself long and hard and came home and went to the grarage and grabed the torch and cut the car up and loaded it up and took to the scrap yard. Was a sad moment in my life something i had did so long i had to turn away from, but i couldnt let go of what was right. After that every other weekend i would take my boys to races and we would sit in the stands and just watch. Till one night a driver at a specfic track i had respect for walked by and was complaining of the things that was going on with him, he talked to his wife and told her he was leaving and to grab the kids. I stoped this guy and had a talk with him and learned what went on and said that's the whole reason i got out. If any driver read's this keep this in mind they take your money, take your car count, and can even take ur time, but never let the track or tracks take something from you that is not hurting anything. They cant take away anymore then they give them. Remember the track's need you more then you need them. Maybe some offical out there at some track may run across this and understand this and learn from it. The generation of racing stoped with me. I would never let my kids get involved in racing and havent been back to a track since. There's my reason why my car count droped off track's.

so you quit cuz they wanted you to take a flag down in your car? If you truly loved to race it woulda been a no brainer. i understand things should be cherished especially coming from your family and children. Maybe they were worried about safety. what if the flag come off and all of sudden got stuck on your helmet.. or flew from your car to the car behind you and got stuck in their vision. stuff like that has happened before. Racing is a family sport i know that as well. I know my son would be devastated if i just up and quit racing. Car count has gone down due to the economy. Race gas is high and gas to get your car to the track is high also. i have seen car count go way down but its also slowly working its way back up the past two years. i hope you reconsider getting back to racing and i hope you bring your kids back to the sport as well. Officials have to make decisions sometimes whether they want to or not and usually there is a reason behind it. Don't let little things ruin a good hobby even the ones you can do with your family.

Well to be honest i help people out with there car's i have no intention's of getting back into the sport. As far as the flag goes it wasnt anything that could have been at any way involved in a security or safety manner. It was not a huge flag and was so securely fastened to the car it couldnt have came off. But that is really hear nor there. My boys though was devisted over it and thats where i drew the line. Truely loving to race is one thing but nothing stands inbetween a person and there family. Glade to see some of the car count come up at whatever track's you guy's are at, Racing is to expensive to get back into the sport no way i would now spend that type of money to just get started again. On normal race weekends i spent time in the rv with the family and go do some camping and been planing vacation's out. I never turn down a old friend in need but will never get back into the sport again. By the way hope you guys have a good season and enjoy.

You know im reading alot of these post and i race and let me tell ya i can tell ya a few things about there safety rules LOL. When safety is used against a person for own personal gain i have no respect for them. Use to say safety was always a big thing in my book but now just like the drivers officals or techs use the word safety in the rule to accomplish what they want. l8ers

Ive seen car count low and high not all is cause cost of fuel but it has some to do with it.Time is closing in where one day soon ill hang it up also and its coming faster each year.Where i race theres lot more going on that aint seen. Some stuff people just keep to themselfs and never say anything. Ill be getting out also and have my own reasons i will not discuss, just counting my days down till that one moment that pushes the wrong button.

as reading the blogs i see some one again going to stop racing.its a sad note to hear and most often even harder to do.more so if famialy members were connected in it.if there is any thing i can say on this its just a couple things.i learned over the years of racing dirt tracks both oval and figure 8 that its not geting any better. now hold on i dont mean there hasnt been great things come forward out of racing today.but to the ones thats going to stop doing it.i found that that racing is a competive sport in every way not like befor. once a person see's this they will see what im talking about.i found that in nowadays compatition its more then car more then safety more then the cost of money... even these are importain but.nowadays its the not what they can take away lol naw thats not it.its not if the track bullys ya around or even the inspectors picking on ya cause you are winning or you dont see thier views on things.one thing i can tell you is stoping racing isnt bad if you have good reason to,but allso one must remember in todays world " its what they cannt take away from you" .most feel that its a race in life its self. so i feel this way.they can take the money away the win, make ya do things thats not fare, make you drive further, call you names, but if you look at it,if your still racing you havent lost the race my friend at all.nawwww they didnt win, maybe the race track race yes and bull stuff yes, but not in the total game of racing.they may won a battel but not the war lol.buf if you quite cause of this stuff, then my friend i think you can come to the conclusion.im not trying to upset any one or disrespect any one,im just trying to help out a fellow racer with my thoughts.even though i dont know you personaly i still care. have a great day all.

Is there a way to reduce the cost for the drivers in the Open and Pro Stock by possibly putting more restrictiions on the cars engines, tires, and anything else? Is there any chance of having a combination figure 8 class of 4 cylinder compact cars and front wheel dirve cars?

after reading your post, thought id toss my view in there lol. open class is just that open, prostock is sapose to be just a step up from stock class.what i find in most casses is that the racing has changed alot. it use to be you did what you could and with what you had or could get from a friend or junk yard.nowadays it seams more and more that it all boils down to the money.the ones that have it uses it. i understand your thinking about more restrictions ect. but am sure as you know with the know how out there there is allways away.some will find that way others will be further behind because they dont know the answer or cannt do.and im sure you are going to hear this said over and over.... it only cost as much as you make it. but completing against this thought makes it tough i agree. because as we know once the tracks give the racers more of what they want, they dont like to change back because of performance and money spent. if where you race if they use imca then thats probly your best answer to it. as most groups of imca has the things needed to realy check things out and to get with track oweners and change a few guide lines.but as i said i am sure if there is a way to change the approch to get the same affect on the car.they will find it.

Why doesn't Adel and Indianola do something similar to Brooklyn with how they lineup the Mains? After the 1st week of racing, couldn't they do inverted starts every week for the Mains according to your current season standings or according to your season current average Main placings/finish? I personally would like to see the plain Stock dividion come back.

Adel is a lost cause. The last few races Indianola did invert by points. As for the stock class there wasn't enough cars to keep it going
